Mike de Wit (Geologist PhD)


Mike obtained a BSc.(Hons)degree from Trinity College Dublin University in 1975 and MSc degrees in geophysics and sedimentology from universities of Pretoria (1981) and Reading (1983) respectively. He completed a PhD in geology from the University of Cape Town in 1993. He started his career with the Geological Survey of S.A. in 1976 where he spent 2 years involved with geophysical applications over alluvial diamond deposits. The following 29 years he was employed by De Beers Group in diamond exploration, ending up as General Manager - Africa, responsible for discovery and evaluation of kimberlites in Africa before moving to Kinshasa in 2005 as the General Manager - DRC. In 2007 he joined Canadian junior exploration company BRC DiamondCore Ltd as their President continuing exploring and evaluating diamond deposits in the DRC and South Africa out of Kinshasa. In 2009 he also joined Tsodilo Resources Ltd as a non-executive director (exploration) and formed South Africa based Majimba Geo-consulting cc. Finally in 2007 he was appointed as honorary Professor at the Geology Department of the University of Pretoria. Mike is Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists, a Fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa and is a registered Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council of Natural Scientific Professions.


Barry Bayly (BSc. Hons, University of Cape Town)


Barry has 28 years experience in exploration, mineral resource evaluation and management, project development and mine management. He was employed by De Beers where he held the senior positions of General Manager for De Beers Marine and General Manager Exploration for southern Africa, India and Australasia. Barry is currently Chief Operating Officer of Swala Resources Plc. Barry has a BSc (Hons.) from the University of Cape Town and is registered as a Professional Natural Scientist (SA).


Peter Bloy (Geologist)


Specialising in resource evaluation, Peter has extensive experience in the field working for JCI then Anglo American throughout Africa. Has 15 years experience in Resource Evaluation across a range of deposit types. His experience covers all aspects of collection, compilation and interpretation of geochemical data with particular emphasis on Resource Modelling, grade control systems and Reconciliations on operating mines. His experience stretches from Navachab Gold, Namakwasands Heavy Minerals, Phoenix Nickel and Sadiola Gold Mines in Mali (from feasibility to production).


Jean Frenay (Geological Engineer- PhD Metallurgy)


Jean graduated in 1965 as geological engineer. He worked as researcher, then as professor, in the Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy unit of University of Liège. He got his PhD in Metallurgy from University Laval, Québec, for his researches on various aspects of the zinc extractive metallurgy. His main fields are: Cu- Co- Au- Zn- metallurgy, heap- or bio-leaching, mineral processing, recycling, and environmental impact of the mining and metallurgical activities. He has important cooperation activities with enterprises and universities worldwide, mainly central Africa and south America.
