Bugeco

Current Projects

De Beers has now withdrawn from its joint venture agreement with Bugeco and the remaining licenses revert with immediate effect to 100% Bugeco ownership. The area concerned consists of some 1,100 km2 in Western Kasai, on which 10 kimberlites have been discovered, most of which are known to possess micro-diamonds. Bugeco will be required to relinquish 50% of these licences before the end of 2009, but this will have no effect on its ability to maintain those licences in which the kimberlite cluster is located.

Diamond found in area of first kimberlite discovery

The Joint Venture with De Beers has been a successful and harmonious collaboration in which De Beers has undertaken to carry all the costs of exploration in consideration of its option on the company’s discovery.

In addition to this, Bugeco has entered into an agreement with Swala Resources Plc in order to finance the costs of the search for new opportunities in DRC – In this regard Bugeco and Swala have signed a Heads of Agreement with a major international mining company to submit an application over a large area for exclusive exploration licences covering Bugeco’s identification of a major new geological feature believed to have significant PGM, gold, nickel and base metals potential.

In view of the dramatic fall in metal and diamond prices that has arisen as a consequence of the ‘credit squeeze’ and corresponding world recession, many companies in DRC are having problems funding their exploration and development programmes. Conscious of the need to reduce overheads, Bugeco offers a service to represent their administrative and relationship needs in Kinshasa.

Also given the current economic environment, Bugeco has launched a niche and very discreet and targeted brokerage service to assist in identifying and valuing opportunities for investment for mining companies or funds seeking to acquire mining properties or invest in distressed companies with exciting ground holdings.
